A U-shaped nail used for fastening two building materials together: the kasugai staple (鎹). In Japan, it has long been beloved as a symbol of connecting people with people, and things with things.

This structure has been adapted for jewelry stone settings. Natural stones with random cuts are gently held in place with kasugai-shaped parts. This new setting method, which does not require traditional “prongs” or “bezels,” allows the shape and character of each natural stone to breathe more freely.
