Before the invention of electric lights, in the early 16th century when people still spent their nights by candlelight, the rose cut diamond was conceived. At that time, in Europe, parties known as "soirées" were held almost every night, where nobles gathered, music played, balls were held, and they indulged in ballet, opera, and theater.

The rose-cut diamond quickly gained popularity among royalty and nobility gathering at evening parties, as it radiated a fantastical glow under the light of candles. Its modest yet elegant and subtle sparkle captivated people's hearts.

At the time when the rose cut was invented, the modern brilliance utilizing the refractive index and dispersion of light had not yet been discovered. What captivated the royalty and nobility gathered at evening parties was the sparkle created by the light reflecting off the cut facets on the surface of the diamond, known as scintillation (specular reflection).

First, the size of the diamond. One side is a size of "0.02ct" that is designed for everyday use, while the rose cut diamonds offered in the 'Selectable Diamonds' collection have a more special size. They are available in two sizes: "0.04ct" and "0.09ct".

In addition to the differences in diamond sizes, the fact that they are set in platinum settings makes them feel one or two sizes larger than their actual size.

FEATURE03: From Historical Techniques

From the 18th century to the early 19th century, a technique called "foil back" was commonly used to enhance the brilliance of diamonds set in stone frames by sneaking in metallic foils, such as silver leaf, between the gemstone and the setting. Many of the rose-cut diamonds from that time were also made using the foil back technique. You can still see this style in antique jewelry today.

“Inspired by the 'foil back', we decided to use a platinum frame only for the top. The entire diamond is set in pure white platinum, creating a natural foil back effect.”

ちなみに、The basic line of rose cut diamond jewelry, which features diamonds set in a gold stone frame, is designed to enhance the diamond's expression by incorporating light holes on the bottom surface instead of using a foil back.

FEATURE04: The Presence of Diamonds

Considering the different roles required for collection items and basic line items, we added contrast to the presence of the diamond. When comparing the rings from the side, the difference becomes clear.

On one hand, the height of the top holding the diamond is minimized to create a design that is more suited for everyday use. In the collection items, we seek a balance that allows for a greater presence of the diamond, crafted in a form where a platinum top is placed on a gold arm. Of course, the ring top is shaped with no corners at all, andWe have taken care to ensure that there are no snags or catches.
