Background of Starting the Photography Studio Event

We receive orders for cobaco jewelry for various reasons. It brings people closer together. It reminds us of someone anew. It encourages ourselves... When we reflect on the role that the jewelry we deliver plays, we realize that it overlaps significantly with the role of the medium of "photography." Since then, we have started to think about how we can engage in activities that allow us to witness each customer's form being preserved as a photograph.

Jewelry brands and photography may seem like two unrelated points at first glance, but by connecting them, something new may be born. I consulted with photographer Shinpei Kato, who has always been a great help in shooting key visuals, and in 2020, the activities of 'cobaco Photo Studio' began.

About "cobaco Photo Studio"

Our atelier in Kobe Sannomiya will become a special photo studio for just one day. There will be no colorful backdrop papers, numerous lights, or photography equipment commonly found in regular photo studios. What we have is the space of the atelier, the natural light coming through the windows, and the camera. We aim to capture the natural appearance of that moment and place in our photographs.

The photographer in charge of the shoot is Shinpei Kato, who has always been a great help with our brand visual photography. Having been part of the photography studio at Muji, he will capture images with a sense of airiness and transparency.

This is an image of the finished photo taken in the studio. The photos will be selected by the photographer and printed in a 6-cut size. (The 6-cut size is 254mm in height and 203mm in width, approximately the size of B5.)

The printed photos will be enclosed in an original photo mount created for the photography studio event and delivered to you. The photo data will be sent separately via email. We plan to deliver it approximately one month after the day of the shoot.

Shinpei Kato

Born in 1976. From Kanagawa Prefecture. After working as a photographer's assistant and in the Muji photography studio, became a freelancer in 2009. Moved to Okayama Prefecture in 2011. Alongside commercial photography work for advertisements and magazines, also conducts family photo shoots. In 2014, held a photo exhibition titled "Shapes of Family" in Okayama and Tokyo. Participated in the Dramatic Yachiyo Project from 2015. Since the brand renewal in 2018, has been responsible for the brand visual photography of cobaco.

The day before the popup event, the venue setup was finally coming to a close, and the Omotesando Keyaki Street I stopped by on my way home was wrapped in dazzling illuminations. People passing through the streets were carrying large shopping bags on their shoulders. The season to finally feel the Christmas spirit has arrived. 

In the midst of this, we held the exhibition "cobaco pop-up gallery in Tokyo" in Omotesando, Tokyo. Many customers, including those who came to see the Xmas Limited Collection, stopped by. Thank you very much to everyone who visited.

We are planning to hold an exhibition in Tokyo for the first time in a while on December 2-3. This exhibition will be the only pop-up event this winter, featuring the Christmas limited collection 'Selectable Diamonds'. Four types of diamonds with different cuts have been crafted into jewelry with combination colors.
