Background of starting the photo studio event

"I want a family ring to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary"
"I want to give my grandmother a necklace for her 60th birthday"
"I want matching rings with a friend who will be apart starting spring"

We receive orders for cobaco jewelry for various reasons. It brings people closer, makes you think of someone anew, and encourages yourself... Reflecting on the role our jewelry plays, we realized it overlaps a lot with the role of the medium "photography." Since then, we have wanted to engage in an activity that watches over each customer's unique form being preserved in photos.

Could something new be born by connecting two seemingly unrelated points: a jewelry brand and photography? We consulted photographer Shinpei Kato, who always helps with our key visual shoots, and in 2020, the "cobaco Photo Studio" project began.

About "cobaco Photo Studio"

Our atelier in Kobe Sannomiya becomes a special photo studio for one day only. There are no colorful backdrops, numerous lights, or shooting equipment commonly seen in photo studios. What we have is the atelier space, natural light streaming through the windows, and a camera. We aim to capture natural appearances at that time and place.

The photographer in charge is Shinpei Kato, who also handles our brand visual shoots. Having worked in MUJI’s photo studio, he captures transparent, airy shots filled with atmosphere.

Here is an example of finished photos taken at the atelier. The photographer selects the photos, which are printed in a 6-cut size. (6-cut size is 254mm vertical × 203mm horizontal, approximately B5 size)

The printed photos are placed in original photo mounts made specifically for the photo studio event and delivered to customers. Photo data will be sent separately by email. Delivery is planned about one month after the shoot date.

Born in 1976, from Kanagawa Prefecture. After working as a camera assistant and at MUJI’s photo studio, he became freelance in 2009. Moved to Okayama Prefecture in 2011. Alongside commercial photography for ads and magazines, he also shoots family photos. Held photo exhibitions "Shapes of Family" in Okayama and Tokyo in 2014. Participated in the Dramatic Yotsukaido Project since 2015. Has been responsible for cobaco’s brand visual shoots since the brand renewal in 2018.

About "cobaco Photo Studio"

Our atelier in Kobe Sannomiya will become a special photo studio for just one day. There will be no colorful backdrop papers, numerous lights, or photography equipment commonly found in regular photo studios. What we have is the space of the atelier, the natural light coming through the windows, and the camera. We aim to capture the natural appearance of that moment and place in our photographs.

The photographer in charge of the shoot is Shinpei Kato, who has always been a great help with our brand visual photography. Having been part of the photography studio at Muji, he will capture images with a sense of airiness and transparency.

This is an image of the finished photo taken in the studio. The photos will be selected by the photographer and printed in a 6-cut size. (The 6-cut size is 254mm in height and 203mm in width, approximately the size of B5.)

The printed photos will be enclosed in an original photo mount created for the photography studio event and delivered to you. The photo data will be sent separately via email. We plan to deliver it approximately one month after the day of the shoot.

The day before the popup event, the venue setup was finally coming to a close, and the Omotesando Keyaki Street I stopped by on my way home was wrapped in dazzling illuminations. People passing through the streets were carrying large shopping bags on their shoulders. The season to finally feel the Christmas spirit has arrived. 

In the midst of this, we held the exhibition "cobaco pop-up gallery in Tokyo" in Omotesando, Tokyo. Many customers, including those who came to see the Xmas Limited Collection, stopped by. Thank you very much to everyone who visited.
