A special gift from parent to child, the baby ring. We aimed to create a sense of family connection in everything we deliver, from the product to the packaging. In the second part, we will talk about the packaging.
Cherished memories of familyto something more "special"
"I would be happy if the time of birth, height, weight, and other details could be included." This was the most common feedback we received from customers when we conducted a survey about baby ring production. It made me realize once again that these numbers are "special" for mothers.
The first thing that came to mind was engraving on a baby ring. However, baby rings are small, and there is a limit to the number of characters that can be engraved on the inside. Instead, how about delivering a commemorative plate engraved with the baby's "special" number along with the baby ring? This is how the original commemorative plate from cobaco for baby was born.
Since we're going to make a plate anyway, let's aim for something even better and expand our ideas further.
After much thought and consideration, we arrived at the idea of birthstones. By incorporating a single stone in the color of the birthstone, it will create a set that fosters a deeper attachment. The shape of the baby ring set we aim for is gradually coming into view.
Add a touch of baby charm to the packaging.
Next is the box to hold the baby ring.
The hint came from a crayon box from Europe. The lid slides open, making it cute and easy for children to open, which is perfect for packaging baby rings.
We chose a paulownia box that is strong against temperature and humidity, and is also effective for pest prevention and antibacterial properties, making it suitable not only for the preservation of antiques but also for the storage of "umbilical cords." With its pest and mold prevention effects, it is ideal for keeping important items stored for a long time.
The backing that holds the rings and plates is made of a type of flocked paper called Woop, which has rayon fibers embedded in thick paper. It has a soft and pleasant texture, reminiscent of touching a baby's cheek.

The illustration of a baby with an indescribable expression that brings a smile to your face is created by an animation artist who has also worked on AC Japan's commercial "Kindness Expands Through Imagination."Jun WadaPlease pay attention to the outline of the baby's face. In fact, it resembles the shape of the letter "c" in cobaco.
"Please draw three illustration options with different expressions. Try to guess which illustration is the correct one."
A message card that allows you to express your wishes and feelings for your child embedded in a baby ring. One day, when your child grows up, you can look back and discuss the memories of that time... we hope it becomes a connection between the "now" and the "future."

Finally, the baby rings and mother rings are complete. The finished samples have arrived from the workshop.
The "dots" series baby ring features a design made up of several small loops connected together.It embodies the wish for family connections and a smooth journey through life ahead. At the top, there is a small birthstone with a diameter of about 2mm.
Next is the mother ring.
When children are small, there tends to be a lot of luggage, which can be quite a hassle. To prevent the ring from bending during such times, we have ensured it has a certain width and thickness for added strength.
To prevent injuries from the clasp's prongs getting caught when holding your child, we have incorporated a technique called "fusekomi" that hides the prongs.
We want you to wear it every day without hesitation, just like a marriage ring. We have made sure that it is a gentle ring for both babies and mothers.
A baby ring that can be gifted to baby boys, not too sweet.
After the "dots" series was created, we developed the "matte" series with a desire to create a baby ring that would not feel out of place when gifted to baby boys. This series features a matte finish and a flat design. It has been newly added to our lineup as a baby ring to wish for the happiness of children.

This time, we talked about the behind-the-scenes of baby ring production in two parts. We hope that various family bonds will be woven together.
