I remembered an episode written in an essay collection by the musician Masakatsu Takagi that I read once, triggered by the message "I love making mistakes" on a small sticker that came with a magazine I purchased the other day.
During his travels in Ethiopia, he had an interaction with a guide that he found absolutely intolerable. It was the constant explanations about everything he saw, such as "This building was constructed in this year, and this event happened." Huh? Isn't that rather a good thing? You might think so. However, he felt that while listening to the guide's repeated explanations, he wanted to first experience the fresh sensations of the world through his own heart and body, rather than relying on information given by others. In other words, he wanted to be allowed to "misunderstand."
Within that misunderstanding, there may be new ideas that have not yet existed in the world. A small bug might accidentally lead to a significant discovery. For now, let's set aside whether it is right or wrong, and instead, I will listen to how I feel about it. When I design jewelry, I always keep that in mind as I work.
A small sticker that says "I love making mistakes" has found its place in the corner of my laptop.
